Sarah I.F. Daniel is a clinical psychologist, and she is currently employed as associate�professor at the Department of Psychology, University of Copenhagen.

It uses management science techniques (statistics, simulation, probabilistic modeling and optimization), but only as tools to facilitate problem solving. The book embraces George Dantzig's dictum as its premise: "The final test of any theory is its capacity to solve the problems which originated it."

The book is used in the core MBA program at MIT's, Sloan School of Management for the class titled: "Data, Models and Decisions". It is used in over ten universities in both core and elective classes, including Stanford University, Chicago's graduate school of Business, Babson College, among several others.

About the Author
Dimitris Bertsimas is the Boeing Professor of Operations Research at MIT's Sloan School of Management. He received his PhD from MIT in 1988, and he has been in the MIT faculty ever since. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and area editor of Operations Research. He has received numerous research awards including the Presedential Young Investigator award, Erlang prize and SIAM's best paper award in optimization.

Robert Freund is the Theresa Seley Professor of Operations Research at MIT's Sloan School of Management. He received his PhD from Stanford University in 1980, and he has been in the MIT faculty since 1983. He is former co-editor of Mathematical Programming and the winner of the teacher of the year award at Sloan school three times.

Well written introduction to topic

I used this textbook in my DMD class at MIT and I have to say it saved my butt many times when the lecture material was not entirely clear to me. The book is well written and the practical examples they use are interesting. With very little explanation, you can sit down with the book and learn or relearn the material. Unlike most of my textbooks, I intend to keep this one after the class is over. Very nice guide to a useful subject.

This book is well focused in the quantitative methods for decisi�n taking process.
I consider very attractive the presentation of the book and the examples are really interesting.
I think that the depth in the topics is appropiate for students with some background in statistics and OR.

Great book - No test sheet

This is the book you need for the Food & Beverage Operations course. 5th Edition has all of the updated information and it matches the new exam test for your certificate. I highly recommend the book, however it does NOT contain the scan tron sheet that's needed for the exam. I've gone through 2 books on Amazon and they were both neatly packaged and shipped within 2 days of each book, but neither contained the scan tron sheet. That's the only reason why this book gets 4 stars, it would get 5 if the sheet was in it like the previous editions.

Good textbook

This was an easy to read textbook. The chapters arwe not too long, and it has a summary of terms used at the end of every chapter.

Disappointed

The book itself is what I was looking for. Although I received my book in excellent condition & promptly, a scan tron was NOT included nor was this info included in the description. Now I have to spend even more money to obtain a scan tron separately than I would of if I had purchased them together & all the ... I have to go thru to find one and then order. Disappointed & won't order thru this person again! Thanks DKnight..I appreciate your apology but your decision not to include "no scan tron included" cost me and thanks for the lesson. Not sure if you sell books regularly or not but if you do, please get better at doing your homework. Disappointed
